Our family-run organic hotel is situated in a sunny, secluded location in Carinthia’s Malta Valley – quiet, close to nature and yet easily accessible. Surrounded by meadows, mountains and clear air, Pirker’s is the ideal starting point for a sustainable vacation on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
We would like to offer you a vacation with as little CO2-footprint. However, it’s not just about the accommodation, but also about the journey. We therefore recommend that you travel by train to the nearest destination station Spittal/Millstättersee. From there, take the next bus directly to the hotel!
If you are planning a vacation without a car for the sake of the environment, you have the option of booking an electric car from the municipality of Malta for day trips or by the hour. Please remember to plan the booking of the e-car before you arrive, so that we can make sure that we can book appointments in good time. We are happy to help you with the reservation and processing.
Public transportation:
You can also explore the beautiful Malta Valley and the surrounding region directly from the hotel by bus – completely relaxed and free of charge.
As our guests, you will receive a free bus pass, which gives you flexible use of the public transport network in the Malta Valley and beyond.
Whether to the waterfalls, the Kölnbrein dam or the nearest bathing lake – from destination to destination, from mountain to valley – without a car and without stress.
There is no more sustainable and comfortable way to experience the Malta Valley!

Arrival at Pirker’s
ARRIVAL BY CAR
- By car from South Tyrol: Via San Candido – Lienz – Lendorf on the highway and direction Gmünd – leave the highway here and drive in the direction of Maltatal (from Gmünd to our hotel it is 14 km). When you reach the end of Malta, drive another 8 km to the hotel.
- By car from Salzburg: Take the A10 Tauernautobahn to the Gmünd exit (approx. 16 km after the Katschberg tunnel). Coming from the highway in the direction of Maltatal to Malta (approx. 6 km). When you reach the end of Malta, drive another 8 km to the hotel. Your vacation home is located 8 km outside the village of Malta in an idyllic secluded location.
- By car from Vienna: Take the A2 highway from Vienna in the direction of Graz and then continue in the direction of Villach. In Villach continue on the A10 in the direction of Spittal/Drau. Continue on the highway from Spittal to the highway exit to Gmünd/Carinthia and on into the Malta Valley.
- Arrival by electric car:
We have an e-charging station for TESLA and other common e-vehicles (TESLA charging station type 2). We charge a loading fee of € 5 per hour. Other charging stations in the area can be found in Gmünd, Malta, Kölnbreinsperre and Spittal/Drau.
ARRIVAL BY PLANE
You can use public transportation, which is a cheap but slightly longer option.
From Salzburg Airport to Salzburg Central Station

By bus: From Salzburg Airport (from bus platform 3) there is a regular airport bus (line 2) that takes you directly to Salzburg Central Station in approx. 15-20 minutes.

By cab: A cab takes about 15 minutes and is faster, but costs more.
By train from Salzburg main station to Spittal/Millstättersee
- From there, take the regular service to the artists’ town of Gmünd and from there take the occasional service every two hours to the hotel.
With our booking confirmation, you can use the regular and occasional services in the entire Katschberg Lieser-Maltatal region from Spittal free of charge.

When the waterfalls playfully find their way through the rocky terrain in spring, the valley begins to awaken. The first rays of summer sunshine break through the treetops and make the forest floor in the Malta Valley smell familiar, warm and lively.
Autumn walks lead you to ripe berries that sweeten the day, while in winter deep breaths full of anticipation accompany the fresh mountain air – just before you head down the freshly snow-covered slopes to your first descent.
