Cycling – On the saddle, ready to go!
Pedal hard and explore the art and culture city of Gmünd. It’s 14 kilometers, to be exact. And even those who prefer to focus on hairpin bends and condition instead of culture and art will find what they are looking for in maltatal. The cycling fun begins right outside the hotel door, leads a long way along the lively Malta river and, if desired, to a few unforgettable excursion destinations in the region. With our countless routes, a cycling vacation in the mountains could hardly be more beautiful.

UP THE MOUNTAIN!
Hiking boots laced and off we go directly from the hotel to a leisurely hike to the Malteiner water features. From waterfall to waterfall, past the bee nature trail over hill and dale, breathe in and enjoy the wonderful mountain air. Beautiful mosses, ferns and coniferous forests line the path and many an ant or fire salamander can be spotted in the sunlight.
Known as the “valley of falling waters”, the Malta Valley boasts 2 national parks. Your vacation here will be a nature experience with beautiful waterfalls and magnificent mountain scenery.

Climbing garden, climbing hall & climbing route
There are numerous sport climbing tours in the Malta Valley – the most popular climbing garden is the so-called “Kreuzwand”. It is up to three pitches high and offers climbing routes in all levels of difficulty. Due to a new, lighter sector with very good protection and a practice climbing path, the cross wall is also very suitable for climbing courses.
High up it goes also on the via ferrata along the 200m high Fallbach. The Fallbachklettersteig is a near-valley, sporty oriented via ferrata and offers the climber breathtaking views of Carinthia’s highest waterfall. Equipment and climbing experience are required.
For families with indoor climbing fans, we recommend the Mühldorf climbing hall with its large fun area for children. You can find the climbing offer here. The journey to the Mühldorf climbing hall from Pirker’s takes 40 minutes by car.
Canyoning
Thrills in the water
The Malta valley is known for its multitude of imposing waterfalls. Discover the many wonders of nature and enjoy the impressive water world in the Valley of Falling Waters. Canyoning is becoming increasingly popular. Accompanied by professional gorge guides, you move through a wildly romantic water world where fun, excitement and adventure make for unforgettable hours. The trail leads through the Gößgraben gorge, where waterfalls, pools and rock formations typical of gorges await you. Experience a special kind of natural spectacle!

3D archery course in the Malta Valley
Roam over hill and dale through the forest and go hunting…
The 3D Barcours near the Gössfälle water arena (approx. 1.5 km away – accessible on foot or by bike) offers an extraordinary experience. You can prove your marksmanship with bow and arrow on a four-hectare, 1200-meter-long 3D archery course. The equipment and instruction in correct behavior and shooting on the archery course is included. The 3D archery course is a full partner of the Kärnten Card and a bonus partner of the Mountain & Valley Card.
